Surround yourself with fashion knowledge Hint: Little Fashion University: The Kids Guide has a resource guide with some great tools. Keep a dream journal- A place to jot down all your amazing ideas.

  1. Be open to feedback.

Starting a business is exciting, but putting your idea in the spotlight can naturally be a scary thing. Sure! It’s great to hear people’s praises over one of your creations, but it can be sad to hear negative feedback too. If that happens, no worries… Listen to their opinion and don’t take it to heart. Take some time perhaps at a later moment and see if you can utilize their opinion to make your project even greater. Don’t let comments get you down. Push forward and if it helps talk it out with a parent or trusted adult.

  1. Find your passion.

First things first…  Figure out is what is your passion. What makes you happy? What do you enjoy the most when it comes to the fashion world? Is it drawing beautiful fashion illustrations? Is it sewing up one of your designs? Perhaps you are amazing at arts & crafts and want to create projects that you want to sell. When you’re passionate about something, your enthusiasm can be contagious and can help you drive sales.

  1. Be persistent and never give up.

Having a successful business doesn’t happen overnight. It can take months or even years to see results. It’s important to remember that success takes time and patience, so don’t give up even when things get tough. Surround yourself with people who encourage you and who believe in you. Find positive quotes that bring you happiness and post them in places you go on the daily i.e bathroom mirror, closet door, school locker.

  1. Be your own cheerleader.

Your biggest cheerleader is YOU! So, take time to care for yourself and do things that encourage a creative mindset. Develop good eating and exercise habits to promote a strong, healthy mind and body. Invest in yourself and your overall health and happiness. Create a self-care pie chart and be sure that you are devoting time to all areas.

  1. Make a plan and set goals.

Starting a business is a lot of work so creating a plan of action to map it out is a great idea! First… Set a goal. Then list out detailed steps needed to achieve that goal. Since it’ll take time to reach your end goal, let’s plan it out over time. Grab a calendar and choose some dates that you aim to achieve each step. Reward yourself after achieving each goal.

  1. Have an organized work area.

Having a clean, organized work area will help you have a clear mind and stay focused. So, unclutter that desk and create a workspace that you are proud to work in. Clear away any items that may be of distraction to you. Put some time and energy into organizing all your tools so they are within easy reach, and you can find them quickly. Add a few touches of positivity and items that motivate you such as a picture of your hero or a favorite quote.

  1. Be confident and don’t give up.

Believing in yourself and your abilities are essential. Have faith that you can reach your goals. Surround yourself with friends and family that encourage you and make you feel good about yourself. This will help you stay motivated and keep pushing forward. Have an affirmation that you say to yourself each morning or at bedtime. For example- I am unique and special and there is no one else in the world like me.

  1. Ask for help when you need it.

We all need help once in a while. Starting a business is a challenge and it’s important to not be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Have a few trusted mentors that you can go to for support and assist you when you need it. Keep an eye out for inspiring individuals and ask them if it’s okay if you call on them if you have questions. Most likely they will respond with a happy “Yes” and will be flattered that you even asked.

  1. Have fun and enjoy the journey!

Step back and admire your work. Stop and smell the roses and enjoy the journey. Be proud of yourself for all of your accomplishments and for taking the leap to becoming a fashion kidpreneur. Enjoy the experiences that happen along the way and don’t forget to take some time to celebrate the wins!
